Scarborough TEC opened its doors to its first cohort of students at Filey Road in September 2017, following a relocation and rebranding from the former Yorkshire Coast College, which was based across two campuses in Scarborough; at Lady Edith’s Drive and Valley Bridge Parade. As part of its relocation it was decided to build a brand-new purpose made Engineering and Construction Workshop to house the apprenticeship programs.
The development included the building of a dedicated Engineering & Construction centre, following the completion of Phase 1 works in September 2017, which focused on transferring vocationally focused facilities associated with the Visitor & Service Economies and Creative Industries together with associated staff and support services.
The project comprised of the construction and delivery of Phase 2 that saw the final transfer of the existing Lady Edith Drive facilities, which includes vocational courses in Engineering and Construction. This process enhanced the quality and provision the college offers and was completed by late 2018.
The design incorporated specialist vocational spaces for Engineering & Construction provision with additional facilities for flexible learning, encompassing practical and theory within designed spaces. The new building is being used by students and staff undertaking and teaching a variety of vocational courses within the Engineering & Construction industries. The building includes;
- Electrical workshop
- Engineering workshop
- Fabrication & welding workshop
- Plumbing workshop
- Brickwork workshop
- Joinery workshop
- Joinery Machine Workshop
- Motor Vehicle Workshop
- Internal Material Store
- Ventilated Material Store
